The #5 lesson learned in the last 10 years in the skincare and makeup industry

#5 Make sure to get your beauty sleep

Beauty-Sleep-Advantages-003

What’s free, relaxing, and gives you results? Beauty sleep!

10 hour work days, time with the kids, along time with your spouse, don’t forget your 1 hour workout…. A 24 hour day never has enough time for anything, but are you making the necessary time for beauty sleep? You’ve probably already seen through experience, when you skimp on sleep, it shows. The skin sags, looks dulls and looks like how you feel…tired!

According to multiple dermatologists, lack of sleep causes blood vessels to dilate, causing the look of dark circles and blotchy skin. Not only does that add to your list of unwanted issues, lack of sleep can also make you more stressed, making you look angry, sad and even older. A facial can give you a whole hour of uninterrupted sleep, relax your body and zen your energy into better facial health.

While you sleep, your skin renews itself. New skin cells grow and repair the old ones seen by the eye. This repairing and metabolic cycle can be sped up by products, but your beauty sleep is letting the process happen naturally.  As you sleep, your body churns out human growth hormone – crucial for collagen production. All this below the surface activity helps cause the skin to lose about 25% more water overnight than it does during the day. Applying a moisturizing cream, possibly with hyaluronic acid, will help retain the hydration. Dehydrated skin will give the appearance of exhaustion and poor health.

The good thing about sleep is that it rebounds the skin quickly. But how much is sufficient? 7-9 hours is the ideal amount for an average adult. Getting into a sleep habit, creates a rhythm for your body and organs to easily process. Your skin is the largest organ of your body and responds to routines just as well as others. If you cannot get all your sleeping hours at one time, take a nap! The hours are best together, but add up over time. Unfortunately, you cannot “bank” sleep, so make sure to catch up when you can!

TIP: Sleep on your back if possible! I will always be a side sleeper, like many of you out there, but I at least try to start on my back. Stomach and side sleeping presses your face into the pillow, creating a meshwork of fine lines and creases when you wake up. Also women sleeping on your side creates vertical chest lines appearing as sun damage but may be a product of side sleeping. Chest pillows can help deter creasing issues from becoming a permanent issue.

Also make sure that you are taking advantage of those prime sleeping hours that are repairing you skin by using the best skincare products. Our skincare line we use at Millefiori is called SkinCeuticals. We love these products from both personal experience and our patient testimonials.
