Acne is the most common skin condition in the United States
Acne is the most common skin condition in the United States. Whether as a teenager or adult most people suffer from this skin condition at some point in their lives. Although this condition is very common there is a wealth of misleading information. Many patients tell us that they have tried many over the counter remedies without results. The information here was put together by our skin care experts, including a physician assistant and medical esthetician to help you understand more about acne and treat it successfully.
Skin care professionals know that not treating can cause more harm than good. Without treatment dark spots or permanent scars can appear on the skin. Actually resolving the problem will boost a patient self-esteem and with technology today, there are many effective treatments.
Not just teens have acne. There is a growing percentage of women that starts in their 30-40’s. We understand that this adult onset can be particularly frustrating. At Millefiori in downtown Melbourne we have specific treatments tailored to the needs of all ages.
Acne can cause more than just blemishes. Studies have shown that people suffering from acne can also have low self-esteem. They may shy away from school, work, or social events due to their skin. If your teenage child has acne the worse thing you can do as a parent, is tell them its just part of life and they will grow out of it. They need a professional evaluation. evaluation.
If you have a bad case of acne you may feel like you are the only one. It is the most common skin problem in the US and about 40-50 million people have acne. Both men and women at any age can get breakouts. Even newborn babies can get it.
Acne is a result of the pore that is clogged on the skin. The clog usually starts with a build up of dead skin cells. It is normal for us to have dead skin cells and as they rise to the surface the body naturally sheds them. If this system is not working the cells will sit on the skin and clog pores. The body then starts to create excess sebum, this is oil. The oil combines with the skin cells and becomes trapped in the pore and creates the “bump.” There is also bacteria that is naturally on the skin called p.acnes this can get into the clogged pore and multiply quickly. With the bacteria inside the pore, it causes inflammation, redness, swelling, and pain. If the infection continues down deeper into the skin a cyst or nodule can occur.
The best diagnosis is a consultation with a medical professional. They will look and examine the skin to determine if acne is present. After a consultation our acne clinical facial is done by our medical aesthetician, with the extractions being done we will have more information about the skin. Not all treatments will work for all people. This is why it is so important to be under the care of a medical professional.

MicroPeels
This SkinCeuticals Micropeel ($150) is a chemical peel with an advanced treatment that includes a 3 step process. Dermaplanning, a mechanical exfoliation of the skin, a customized chemical peel solution, and followed by a CO2 blast to cool the skin
