#9 You Will Never Drink Too Much Water
Your skin is the largest organ of your body, and with it being properly hydrated, you look and feel your best. Consuming the right amount of water maintains a healthy level of moisture within the skin cells. If you’re dehydrated, it becomes dry, tight, flaky and accentuates wrinkles and lines, even creating what we call in the industry “dehydration lines.” These lines aren’t from muscle movement or the natural aging process, but rather the lack of moisture in the skin which causes it to shrivel up and fold.
Roughly 66% of the body is made up of water, and at every moment, water is escaping the body through sweat, urination, exhaling, and other routes, so replacing that lost H2O is vital for health.
Is there too much water for the body? Technically, yes, but you would have to be exerting more than what you would be taking in. It is almost impossible unless you sit down and consume gallons in a very short amount of time.
So what is the best way to add water and hydration for the skin?
– For an average sized woman, the Institute of Medicine suggests drinking ATLEAST 9-11 glasses of water a day. A glass is 8oz, so keep that in mind. A easy way to incorporate water consumption is by having a large 1 Liter bottle and to mark it with times. These times should be realistic, but push you to drink a bottle more throughout the day. For example, you usually drink 8 oz by lunch. If you keep that pace, you will probably drink less than a third of what you should in a day Instead, mark on the bottle near 20 oz a 12pm dash. Many people report that their increased water intake gives the skin a healthy glow. Many who suffer from acne report a clearing of bacterial and cystic breakouts after drinking more water. You wont see a correction overnight, but a few weeks of increased daily water intake can effect your skin.
-Apply a hydrating serum product underneath your moisturizer, like the SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Gel. Hylaronic Acid is the featured ingredient in this serum, and holds 1,000 times its own weight in water, this attracting water to the skin and holding in its moisture. Using a product like this gives the cells added hydration, and in turn, plumps the skin and softens (even eliminating!) dehydration lines.
–Exfoliate! Dead skin blocks absorption of products due to multiple layers creating a barrier to moisture. Using a scrub or enzyme 2-3 times per week allows consistent removal of dead skin and allows hydrating products to penetrate deeper into the skin and going to an epidermal level where the cells can be corrected.
