5 Weird Things in My Makeup Bag

Let me first preface this blog with the confession of claiming one of these items as my own (it was a Millefiori Medical Skin Rejuvenation staff member so it still counts!). As a previous full-time makeup artist, my “bag” is more of an overnight tote. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, has ever seen my hoarding of mascaras and eyeliners to the severe degree that it is. I have a trip bag that if getting ready with girlfriends without the whole store. With all that being said, I do have a few weird things on my makeup bag that only a true makeup/skincare junkie would possess, and here’s a few of those random weird things…

Q-TIPS

These little cotton gifts are a life saver. Disposable shadow brushes. Eyeliner smudger. Correction pen for mascara getting on your eyelid. This all-in-one fixer is a must have in your bag! If you don’t have this in your to-go kit, get on the q-tip train. Plus, it never hurts to clean your ears from time to time. Tape. Yup, tape. I don’t use it daily, but on occasion when I’m feeling snazzy and want to spice up my eye makeup,

Yup, tape. I don’t use it daily, but on occasion when I’m feeling snazzy and want to spice up my eye makeup, tape is my answer. Tape (regular ol’ wrapping paper tape) can mark off a clean line, from the out corner of the eye up towards the crow’s feet and orbital bone. Taping off the edge to give the winged or cat eye look is a cinch, and the easiest trick in the book for a seamless crisp line. Tape, who Woulda thought?

A needle/safety pin

Ok, this is my claimed weird stolen item, I admit. When surveying our staff, there was a few repeats, but this one peaked my interest. When your applying mascara, it can sometimes clump, creating a spidery look. I know that’s supposedly the new trend, but to me it looks like you have applied old, dry mascara. I like the enhanced and natural look personally, and separate, fluttery lashes fit that bill. A needle/safety pin can separate clumped lashes. Obviously you have to be super careful, but using the safety pin is easy, quick, and if you need to pin or tuck any clothing, you have a pin handy! Hairspray. Yes, you read right. Hairspray in my makeup bag is a 2 for 1. Living in Florida humidity, flyaways are my enemy and hairspray (light hold only) can also act as a makeup setter – enter the hairspray as

Yes, you read right. Hairspray in my makeup bag is a 2 for 1. Living in Florida humidity, flyaways are my enemy and hairspray (light hold only) can also act as a makeup setter – enter the hairspray as fix all. Apply all face products, including lip, and from a decent distance, lightly spray the entire face. This creates a setting of all products and even through 99% humidity, that set makeup won’t slide or sweat off. I wouldn’t recommend doing this everyday, but for humid or long days, it will be a trick that will save your happy hour face. I also have a face mister as well that I absolutely love (I carry it in my purse, not my makeup bag) and can give the same effect on the face, unfortunately, not for the hair though 🙁

An Essential Oil

Ahh. If you’ve had a facial by me at Millefiori in downtown Melbourne, you know I absolutely love essential oil’s properties for wellness and mood fluctuations. I’m a big fan of ylang-ylang, peppermint, as well as lavender. Why in the bag you ask? I can’t think of a time where a little aromatherapy brightens my mood. Going out on a date night? Ylang-ylang hightens the senses and gets the libido drive going. Lavender is great for a stressful afternoon, as well as great to apply at pressure points for an all-natural fragrance. A few drops in an old mascara surprisingly refreshes a dry crusted on. A drop of peppermint oil in a lip gloss gives an extra plump effect. Have a travel trio on hand – you won’t regret it. Some of these are not so weird, others off to left

Some of these are not so weird, others off to left field. I know we all have that one item that needs explanation if seen by someone else. Hopefully this list gives you inspiration for multi-use tools and to think outside the box for traditional items. Looking for more beauty suggestions and tips?
