Seaweed Ingredients
In the 1980’s, Osea’s founder, Jenefer Palmer, noticed that most skincare products contain artificial fragrances, dyes and synthetic ingredients. She knew she could create a brand that
does more. Jenefer began mixing her own formulas using salts, clay, essential oils and became increasingly interested in the healing properties of seaweed.
As Jenefer best states on the OSEA website, “We believe in the power of the sea. We use seaweed because it is a superfood—rich in vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. We use seaweeds from all over the world sourced based on what clinical activity it’s proven to have. Different species of algae can provide myriad benefits, including anti-aging and moisturization.”
Three Seaweed Types
Undaria Seaweed- Rich in nutrients like sodium, iron, potassium, calcium and vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, and B12. Undaria nourishes and balances the moisture of the skin.
Gigartina Seaweed- A red marine algae with hydrophilic (moisture attracting) properties. Gigartina is also abundant in sulfated polysaccharides, which act like antioxidants.
Macrocystis Seaweed- largest of all marine algae, and contains high levels of iodine, omega-3 and omega 6 fatty acids, vitamins and minerals.
