MY SKIN IS FREAKING OUT, WHAT DO I DO?!
So if you know me or have met me even once, I am slightly neurotic about my skin. It’s a good thing and kind of necessary for my career field, so when I have less than a perfect complexion, I kinda freak out. I don’t always follow my own advice, like many of you readers out there. Last week I went outside my comfort bubble and added a new exfoliator to my routine that was in my FabFitFun box subscription. WHY DID I DO THIS?! I usually have resilient skin, but my skin was in absolute freak out mode since using it once. Even as the skin guru/ninja, I didn’t have experience in how to clear up this weird rash breakout mess and ran to Iris in a complete panic…. MY SKIN IS FREAKING OUT, WHAT DO I DO?!?!
Immediately I knew I was having a reaction. I cleansed my skin before using the scrub. I used it exactly how I’ve used other scrubs, rubbing in little circles till I felt buffed and squeaky. I rinsed and immediately felt little bumps near the corners of my eyes. “Ehh” I thought to myself, not a big deal. I put my serum and moisturizer, it tingled but in a good way, and then went to bed. When I woke up the next morning, I looked like a horrible version of myself. There was a full blown rash that was more itchy than poison oak and red swollen bumps demarcated exactly where I used the scrub. What the hell happened?! No, more importantly, HOW DO I FIX IT????!!!!!
Luckily, I have a few things up my sleeve when it comes to reactions. Being married to an Irish/German who has borderline rosacea has given me some tests over the years. I immediately sprayed my face with my Avene calming spray and it took away the itching… for 5 minutes. I put my moisturizer on and it burned. I took it off and put on hydrocortisone – ahhh felt better. My skin absorbed it immediately but was still feeling hot and the bumps were looking worse. You would think the guru would know what to do but I really felt like I tried everything! I popped a Benadryl hoping my skin would clear in the hour drive to Millefiori and put the AC on frozen mode to keep my skin cool. I walked in the office and the first thing out of Iris’ mouth was “what the heck happened to your face?!” Obviously the Benadryl didn’t work. The itchiness and heat got worse throughout the day, but I made it through. And then I had the chance to dive into my work arsenal. Woo hoo!
This is when coming to a medical spa like Millefiori makes a difference. I had every product a regular high end spa would carry and nothing helped. I removed the day’s makeup with a cold towel and applied a generous amount of Skinceuticals Phyto Corrective Calming Mask. It was like ice that never melted and it was the first time since using the scrub that my skin felt better. After 5 minutes my skin absorbed every last drop. I then put on the epidermal repair thicker than I would ever recommend and went to Iris for a medical evaluation. She determined through her wise years of medical experience that I had a dermatitis and needed to get on a steroid cream ASAP. Thank god for her! She called it in to Publix and by the time I got home it was waiting for me at the drive thru. Did you know if you are a current patient of our office, all this love and attention is free?! Now that’s the Millefiori difference!
Wondering what happened? It was as easy as applying the RX steroid for 3 days, applied the Skinceuticals Biocellulose Mask and Phyto Corrective Mask and switching out my cleanser and moisturizer to my wintertime regimen and viola! Back to new. Was I over-exaggerating?? NO! It was horrible, my lesson was learned and I will never go outside of my comfort box again. Needless to say, the scrub is in the guest bathroom shower. 🙂
